This project was undertaken during my Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film, Screen and New Media) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). This Short Narrative film is comedy drama adventure about three siblings who spend their last few days on Earth together, travelling to Charlotte Pass before the end of the world. After the Director of the production had seen my work on the Documentary Way of the Blade, and my management skills in Virtual Production, he had asked whether I would be interested in taking on the role as Assistant Director. This was appealing to me as I wanted to take on more leadership roles, and I felt that I could contribute positively to the production due to my previous experience directing, and technical experience working in the virtual production space.
For the production there were a total of five on location shoot days (Two Interior, Three Exterior) with each day a different being a different location. The production also included two large Virtual Production Shooting days, that required the use of a vehicle, which required detailed planning to execute effectively.
Example of Virtual Production Schedule
Below are behind the scenes footage of the production.
“Elliott is nothing but the best kind of creative problem solver. Working with Elliott as my 1st AD, he was a commanding but trusted production head who was responsible for the positive and ever-collaborative working environment that was our set. It’s Elliott’s keen involvement in the needs of the crew, and an unwavering loyalty to get in and help where help was needed that led to such a successful shoot. With five shooting locations over five days, I couldn’t imagine what it would’ve been like without Elliott steering the ship. I truly hope to have the pleasure of collaborating with Elliott again in the coming future.”
